FR. ANSCAR J. CHUPUNGCO, O.S.B.

Fr. Anscar J. Chupungco is a Benedictine of the Abbey of Our Lady of Montserrat in Manila. He is the former president of the Pontifical Liturgical Institute in Rome, where he taught history of the liturgy and liturgical inculturation. Fr. Anscar served as Executive Secretary of the CBCP Episcopal Commission on Liturgy and the Asian Liturgy Forum. He also served as a consultor to the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Congregation for Catholic Education. He was a member of the Advisory Committee of the International Commission on English in the Liturgy (ICEL) for ten years, and for some time served as Chair of ICEL's Translations and Revisions Subcommittee. Fr. Anscar edited the five-volume Handbook for Liturgical Studies and is author of Liturgical Inculturation, Cultural Adaptation of the Liturgy, Liturgies of the Future, What, Then, Is Liturgy?, Meditations on the Mass, Meditations on the Sacrament of the Sick and The New English Translation of the Roman Missal: A Catechetical Primer. Fr. Anscar is considered as father of Filipino liturgists and mentor to countless liturgists in the Philippines and abroad.
